Sukhi Development Foundation UK (Sukhi) has been registered with Charity Commission for England and Wales having Charity Number 1191565. Sukhi is working for the uplift and betterment of the marginalized communities, especially widows, poor women, orphans, deprived students and the less privileged segments of the society in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. More specifically, Sukhi works with communities situated along the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan. This 740km long LoC, between Indian and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, divides the former princely State of Jammu and Kashmir by a line which does not constitute a legally recognized international boundary, but serves as the de facto border.
Fear and panic grips among the residents in the heavily militarized region due to regular exchange of fire between the two countries. The areas along and near LoC are unfortunately the poorest and ranked as the most insecure zones of the country by the food insecurity mapping of Pakistan. The plight of these communities is precarious as in most part of the year they have to leave their homes and villages to avoid artillery firing.
It is estimated that about 20,000 people recently left their homes when exchange of heavy firing took place in Neelam Valley along LoC. People complain that they do not have enough resources to build bunkers or move to safer places. Sukhi focuses to uplift the marginalized groups by improving their livelihoods on sustainable basis.
